Why do my spring-wound pendulum clocks run faster when tightly wound?
The period of a pendulum increases with amplitude, so I would expect the clocks to run slower when tightly wound and the periodic push of the spring is stronger than when the spring is nearly unwound. However, my 2 clocks gradually run slower as their spring is unwound. The clocks have not been cleaned for a long time, and there may be something related to dirt on the excapement mechanism.
